Jail for delivery rider who hit man, 80, with PMA and punched him
The rider punched the victim twice after the victim cursed at him for hitting him.
A food delivery rider who hit an 80-year-old man with his personal mobility aid and then physically assaulted him, has been sentenced to six weeks in jail.
Mohamad Supri (transliterated), 52, pleaded guilty on Aug 18 to one charge of voluntarily causing hurt. Another charge of a rash act causing hurt was taken into consideration during sentencing.
According to Shin Min Daily News, court documents showed that the incident occurred at 10pm on Feb 10.
The elderly victim was walking on a footpath near Block 236 Bukit Batok East Avenue 5 when he was hit by Supri's PMA, suffering injuries to his right thigh and hip.
Instead of stopping, Supri rode off, which angered the victim. He walked to a nearby bench and sat down to ease the pain, while cursing loudly at the delivery rider.
Hearing this, Supri dismounted his PMA. He then walked over and punched the elderly man in the face, knocking him to the ground.
As the man tried to get up and call for help, Supri punched him again, this time in the chest, causing the victim to fall a second time, and proceeded to ride off.
Witnessing the assault, a 21-year-old woman rushed to help the victim and called the police.
The elderly man was taken to hospital but discharged the same day with no visible injuries. The police tracked Supri down later that night.
In his plea for leniency, the rider claimed he was suffering from a slipped disc and was scheduled for a third surgery. He said he found it difficult to walk and could not "sleep in a prison".
