Jail for man, 32, who tricked minor into sex for $700, never paid up
The girl, who was 15 at the time, ended up having an abortion.
A 32-year-old man promised a 15-year-old girl, whose family was facing financial difficulties, $700 for having sex with him, but never paid up.
The girl, who later discovered she was pregnant, ended up having an abortion.
On Monday (July 7), Leong Alyu was jailed for two years and 10 months.
He had faced three charges of sexually assaulting a minor aged 14 or above but under 16, along with an additional charge of fraud.
Leong pleaded guilty to two of the charges, with the remaining charges taken into consideration for his sentence.
Met on dating app
Lianhe Zaobao reported that according to court documents, Leong met the girl on the dating app Heymandi in August 2023. Now aged 16, her identity cannot be revealed due to a gag order imposed by the court.
Leong did not disclose his real name initially, identifying himself only as "Z". They began chatting and later continued their conversation on the messaging platform Telegram.
He learned during their chats that the girl was 15 and that her family was facing financial difficulties. Leong then suggested paying her $700 in exchange for sex.
As she was in urgent need of money, the girl agreed, but asked the defendant to wear a condom.
The two met near the multi-storey car park at Block 786A Woodlands Avenue 60 in the early hours of August 26.
Leong said that as his girlfriend was at home, they could not have sex there. After hearing this, the girl changed her mind and wanted to leave, but he persuaded her to stay and promised to pay her $700 after the incident.
Leong then took the girl to a multi-storey car park, kissed her in the stairwell and had sex with her without a condom.
Fled the scene
Court documents showed that Leong then put on his trousers and fled the scene after having sex with the girl, returning to his Woodlands Crescent home.
The girl later attempted to contact him, but discovered that she had been blocked. The defendant also deleted their chat history and did not pay the promised $700.
Two months later, the girl went for a medical check-up and discovered she was pregnant. She subsequently underwent an abortion.
A DNA test conducted by the Health Sciences Authority found a high probability that Leong was the biological father.
Medical staff later informed the police, leading to the defendant's arrest in November 2023. He was charged in court on March 5 this year.
No compensation has been made to the victim to date.
