A man jaywalking across Raffles Boulevard with a child narrowly avoided being hit by a car, then proceeded to angrily berate the driver who was changing lanes.

Dashcam footage shared on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page captured the incident, which occurred at 12.35pm on April 13.

The video shows the man holding hands with a child as they dashed across the road at Raffles Boulevard, jaywalking directly under an overhead link.

The driver of the car, who was in the midst of switching to the left lane, honked and managed to hit the emergency brake, narrowly missing the jaywalkers.

After reaching the roadside, the adult jaywalker turned around and strode up to the car, gesturing angrily and flashing the driver his middle finger before walking back to the roadside.

Reactions to the video were mixed.

Some netizens took the side of the jaywalker, with many advising the driver to slow down.

One comment read: "No doubt driver had the right of way but no need to go through the extreme and brake hard and honk loudly to scare the man and the child."

At the same time, there were netizens concerned over the example the adult was showing the child.

"The man doesn't deserve to be a dad, teaching his son to jaywalk and then resort to vulgarity."

Under Singapore law, jaywalking is a punishable offence. Offenders can be fined up to $50 for a first offence, with repeat offenders facing higher fines or even imprisonment.
