Johor adds 26 e-gates at land checkpoint
Immigration clearance in Johor Bahru has improved for Singaporeans as 26 e-gates were added to the checkpoint on Feb 18.
The Sultan Iskandar Building's Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex added 17 e-gates at the arrival hall and nine at the departure hall.
This brings the total number of e-gates at the checkpoint to 68 - 39 on arrival and 29 on departure.
The e-gates, which were initially for the use of Malaysian travellers, were opened to Singaporeans in November 2024.
Malaysia's Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had said that the move to allow Singaporeans to use the e-gates was one of the short-term solutions aimed at relieving human congestion at the checkpoints.
Shin Min Daily News reported that there was no congestion at the land checkpoint on Friday evening.
Nineteen-year-old student Max said immigration clearance was a breeze with the additional e-gates.
