Laws to further protect consumers will take more time: Iswaran

The Government is looking at doing more to protect consumers, but this may take time if laws need to be changed, Second Minister for Home Affairs S. Iswaran said, following reports of unfair sales tactics at Sim Lim Square.

He said he agreed with those who felt that the errant retailers should not be allowed to tarnish Singapore's reputation.

He was also glad that some had taken the initiative to crowdsource funds for one affected visitor.

"Unfortunately, some have gone too far," he said on Facebook yesterday, adding that the police are looking into the case, as well as a related report of harassment. "Do exercise restraint and do not take matters into your own hands. Let due process take its course," he said.
