Lee Hsien Loong's NDP2025 fun pack moment brings back memories of Lee Kuan Yew from 2000

Netizens were reminded of a moment where the late Lee was shown how to use a fun pack item at NDP2000.

A TikTok video of Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong exploring the NDP2025 fun pack has brought back memories of the late Lee Kuan Yew from 25 years ago.

In the viral clip on Aug 9, SM Lee, seated next to Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing, can be seen exploring the fun pack.

One of the items in the pack is a card on which participants can pen their wishes for Singapore.

Mr Chan then picks up the card and shows SM Lee how to use it. "He starts writing, like a letter to an old friend," the video caption goes.

Netizens were quick to spot the similarities with a moment from 25 years ago, when then Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew - SM Lee's father - was also seen exploring the NDP fun pack.

Pulling out a paddle, he appears to ask "Is this a fan?"

Deputy PM Tony Tan - who went on to become President - is seated on his left and motions to explain that it is in fact a paddle.

"Oh I see," says the late Mr Lee, before grinning and putting the paddle away.

Netizens found the similarities endearing. "Same vibe as this," said Tiktoker Helloween, posting a photo of Dr Tan with the late Lee, in a comment that garnered more than 4,000 likes.

"Father and son moment," said one commenter in response.

Yishun Remy added, "Same like his dad. last time is Tony now is chan."
