Living room fire in Yishun HDB flat sees one taken to hospital, 10 evacuated

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire likely started from lighted material in the living room.

A person was taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a Yishun HDB flat on Oct 28.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at a 15th floor unit at Block 269B Yishun Street 22 at 7.10pm.

SCDF extinguished the fire, which was confined to a mattress in the living room, with a water jet.

During the operation, firefighters rescued a person from the toilet. The person was assessed for smoke inhalation and taken conscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

The police and SCDF evacuated about 10 people from the affected block as a precautionary measure.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire likely started from lighted material in the living room.

SCDF cautioned members of the public against leaving lighted materials unattended. These include cigarette butts, candles, tealights, lighted incense sticks and mosquito coils.
