Man, 60, found dead in Sembawang home after neighbours notice lights on for days

Preliminary investigations found no foul play.

After noticing a strong odour from a unit whose lights had been left on for several days, residents in Sembawang alerted the police, who found a 60-year-old man dead in his home.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident took place on Sept 4 at Block 363C Sembawang Crescent.

Resident smelled odour since last weekend

A resident who only wished to be known as Mr Bai, 53, told Shin Min that he first noticed the odour last weekend. He initially thought it was the smell of rotting food, but the stench persisted.

The lights in the man's unit had also been on for several days, which made him uneasy. After discussing the matter with other residents, he decided to alert the police.

The police arrived at 2pm that day and found the man lying half-naked on the floor in his unit. They left the scene at around 6pm.

Mr Bai noted that the deceased had moved in only a few months ago and was believed to be working as a security guard.

He lived alone and was described as a very friendly man who got along well with children in the neighbourhood.

No homicide involved

A neighbour who only wished to be known as Ms Wu, 29, also called the police. She said that when officers arrived, the door was locked and they were unable to enter the unit.

When they looked through the window, they saw someone lying on the ground inside.

The police confirmed they had received a report on Sept 4 and found a 60-year-old man unresponsive in the unit. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate that there was no foul play. Investigations are ongoing.
