A hunting trip for wild boar went wrong even before it started.

A man died after accidentally shooting himself in the head with his pumpgun in Changlun, Malaysia.

A. Teraji, 59, was riding his motorcycle with his right hand while holding the weapon with his left hand at a rubber tree plantation in Felda Laka Selatan.

The rocky road caused him to lose balance and he fell from his motorcycle.

The gun then went off, shooting him in the head. He died on the spot at about 6pm on Friday.

'I thought he had shot a wild boar'

It was his nephew, who was ahead of him on the top of a hill, who found him. He heard a loud bang from his uncle's direction and went down to look for him.

"I thought he must have managed to kill a wild boar, but there was no sign of him. So, I rushed to see him and was shocked to see him smeared in blood on the ground," said Jasbistih Anthony.

The 26-year-old also said that his uncle was an expert hunter and never went home empty.

The body was sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for a post-mortem.
