SMU student shames TikToker for secretly filming pick-up attempt

A woman took to social media to share an encounter with a man who uploaded a video of himself using pick-up lines on her at Orchard Road on March 18, secretly filming the conversation.

Faith Teo, the woman in the video, claimed she was filmed without her consent.

In a now-deleted TikTok video titled "Pick-up 100 girls in Singapore (7)," a man can be seen approaching Ms Teo and asking her if she goes to the gym.

He continued the conversation by explaining he was new to Singapore and asking if she'd like to hang out.

The video ended with her rejecting his offer, saying she already has a boyfriend.

A few days later, a friend told her the encounter was filmed and posted on the TikTok account jasonlovegym.

Ms Teo, a student at Singapore Management University (SMU), shared that the man blocked her on TikTok after she messaged him to take the clip down.

The video was only removed after she "put him on blast" on Instagram, and her friends also messaged him about it.

Ms Teo isn't the only one who was secretly filmed by the man.

On his now-deactivated TikTok account, he uploaded videos of himself attempting to hit on "fit" women using the same lines, with Ms Teo being the seventh in the series.

He would approach them, ask about their gym habits, and then try to ask them out.

In one video, he even followed a woman to her doorstep before asking for her Instagram. The woman declined, saying: "I don't have Instagram - I don't have social media."

In several others, he commented that the women looked "very exotic", which they politely laughed off.

The man, Liang Jiajun - better known as Jason - told Mothership he had been uploading such content for a month.

The Chinese national acknowledged it was wrong to film the women without their consent and apologised.

He explained he was trying to encourage men to be more confident through his videos.

"I want guys to not be afraid to talk to girls and be more confident. They can make a girl happy by complimenting them and potentially find a girlfriend."
