Man found dead in Toa Payoh home
He did not emerge after going into toilet on Tuesday night
A man was found dead in the toilet of his second-storey rental flat at Lorong 6 Toa Payoh yesterday.
The 68-year-old, known only as Ah Soo, was believed to have been drinking alcohol on Tuesday night at a nearby coffee shop before he went to the toilet, reported Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao .
When his flatmate, Mr Huang Li Choi, 63, found the toilet in the flat was locked, he did not suspect anything and wanted to use the toilet at the coffee shop.
Mr Huang then went to collect some money from his half-brother, Mr Yang Ming Choi, yesterday morning, and told him in passing that Ah Soo had been in the toilet for a long time.
Mr Yang, 73, a dishwasher, said: "My brother thought Ah Soo had to keep using the toilet and didn't knock to check on him."
Mr Yang decided to check on Ah Soo.
He said when he knocked on the door, there was no response so he used the spare key to open the door.
HEAD INJURY
They then found Ah Soo's body on the floor.
"His head was injured, and there was blood on the floor," said Mr Yang, who then called an ambulance.
A police spokesman said they received a call for help at 6.41am yesterday and found the body of a motionless man. The man was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.
Mr Yang said: "He was quite friendly and not only helped with household chores, but also often asked if I took my medicine on time."
He added that Ah Soo enjoyed drinking, and would consume two bottles of beer every night at the coffee shop.
Mr Yang also said that Ah Soo's three daughters were contacted by police. "Initially, the police couldn't contact any of his family members, but managed to contact them later by using the numbers found in his phone."
The police are investigating and have classified the case as an unnatural death.
