'Many people waiting leh': Man goes viral for hogging ATM

"Hello. Boss. Hello. You one person ah, many people waiting leh," says another man recording him.

A video of a man, a stack of documents before him, making multiple transactions at an ATM despite the long line of customers behind him, has gone viral.

The man recording the video - which was shared on the Singapore Incidents Facebook page with the heading "This kind of ATM user should be banned for life" - takes exception to this.

"Hello. Boss. Hello. You one person ah, many people waiting leh. How long you can use the ATM? One person? Huh?" says the guy filming the video.

"Huh. I cannot use, ah?" the man at the ATM replies.

They argue briefly before the man waiting in line threatens to call the police, and the man at the ATM challenges him to go ahead.

They then hurl vulgarities at each other before the clip ends.

'He should apply for a ATM machine in his house'

There is no indication as to where or when the 71-second video was taken.

At press time, it had garnered 342,000 views, 1,600 reactions and 765 comments.

A mix of anger and amusement characterised the reactions to the clip.

There were suggestions for how the situation could have been better handled, recommendations for ATM etiquette and comments that what the man was doing could be illegal.

"He should apply for a ATM machine, in his house," said Teong Thoon Ng in the most popular comment.

Some were willing to give the man the benefit of the doubt. Cynthia Binsted said: "This man is probably paying bills...could be for a few people who (are) UNABLE to get out /or don't UNDERSTAND how to transact. He may be helping these people."

She added that the man who took the video had no right to make a fuss.

Annie Pang felt he could have chosen a better time to pay his bills, instead of when there was a queue at the ATM. "He should do it in the middle of the night when everyone is sleeping," she said.

'Just queue up lah uncle'

Dilesh Wrsu felt the man was within his rights. "If you see someone with so many transactions, just walk away and come back later... you go to NTUC do you tell them, don't buy so many things?"

"Just queue up lah uncle! Wait for your turn. If you are in a hurry, then go and find (another) ATM to use. That's all," said Florevic Iraula Ibutnandi.

Some like Alex Chandra Tedjo blamed the bank, while others called for a limit on the number of transactions per person. "Bank's fault, lah. Why put only 1 machine?"

But not all suggestions were serious. "If I were there, I would go to the back to unplug the electricity," said Kalvin Ng.

In response, Jit Chaing Lim said: "Get someone to video that when you unplug the electricity. Then you are Hero."
