A 29-year-old man was today jailed 10 years and eight months for killing his niece with a broom, a shower head and a hammer.
Mohamed Firdaus Mohamed Hanafiah was convicted of culpable homicide.
He assaulted his niece, Lydia Wati Mohamed Yahya, in late March 2012.
When the victim, whose clothes and head were blood-soaked, had stopped breathing, Firdaus and his then-girlfriend, fled the Beach Road flat where the incident had occurred.
The victim's body was discovered about nine months later by an HDB inspector.
