Man proposes to girlfriend in the midst of Hong Kong protests
A man decided to ask his girlfriend to marry him in the midst of protests in Hong Kong.
On Sunday (Oct 5), the 22-year-old known only as Yau, got down on his knees and proposed to his girlfriend Chen, 21, on a street in the Mongkok shopping district.
Both are university students and pro-democracy protesters, Reuters reported.
Strangers whipped out cameras and mobile phones as they snapped away at the unexpected sight.
Tens of thousands of protesters have staged sit-ins across Hong Kong over the past week, demanding the city's pro-Beijing leader Leung Chun Ying step down, and also calling for more freedom to elect their own leader.
Reuters added that the Chinese characters on Mr Yau's arm read "'Leung Chun Ying, step down."
Just in case you're curious, it sure looks like Miss Chen said "yes."
