Man rescued from lorry, five more taken to hospital after TPE multi-vehicle accident

The lorry driver and his five passengers were conscious when taken to hospital.

A man was trapped in the driver's seat of a lorry before he was freed by rescuers and taken to the hospital alongside five others after an accident involving four vehicles on the TPE.

The accident occurred on the TPE towards the SLE after the Punggol Way exit at about 5pm on Aug 26 and involved a lorry, a van and two cars, said the police.

The man trapped in the driver's seat of the lorry was freed using hydraulic rescue equipment, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

A 30-year-old male lorry driver and his five passengers - men aged between 22 and 46 - were conscious when taken to the hospital, the police added. Two were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital while four were taken to Sengkang General Hospital, said SCDF.

Three other people were assessed for minor injuries, but declined to be taken to the hospital, SCDF added.

In a video of the aftermath of the accident posted on social media, a group of men can be seen crowding near the driver's seat of the lorry, which is on the first lane of the expressway. They are later seen in the video appearing to pull at part of the vehicle near the door on the driver's side.

The video also pans to show the aftermath of a collision between a car and van nearby, also on the first lane, that caused noticeable damage to both vehicles.

Police investigations are ongoing.
