Masterchef winner upset misleading photo was used against Malaysia Airlines

This article is more than 12 months old

Ping Coombes, Masterchef UK 2014 winner, posted on her Twitter and Instagram account a picture of her family on a Malaysian Airlines flight back to her hometown Ipoh.

The picture was used by the media to show that the flight was empty, suggesting that most of the Malaysian Airlines flights have been flying empty following the double disasters of MH370 and MH17.

Upset, Ping slammed the media for misrepresenting the picture when in fact the flight was full.

“Woke up to this picture in the media! For anyone who has been on a plane knows, family with children get boarded first, the flight was not empty, it was in fact full.

“It’s really sad that a thank you on a kind upgrade that I was offered is being used to attack an airline which has had such a difficult time. We should be offering support and compassion,” she posted on her Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Malaysia Airlines has also responded to all the media reports regarding its empty flights by posting a picture of a full flight on Twitter with the caption, "There are always two sides to every story. Are you with us today?"

But the national carrier's financial picture remains bleak.

MAS announced yesterday (Aug 29) that it registered a loss of RM307 million (S$122 million) for the second quarter to end-June, but warned of worse to come in the second half when the “full financial impact of the double tragedies of MH370 and MH17” hits home.
