Mercedes driver allegedly assaults security guard over parking spot
A Mercedes driver, stopped from parking at the entrance of a golf club while picking up his wife, allegedly pushed a security guard to the ground during a confrontation.
The incident occurred during the Porsche Singapore Classic 2025 golf tournament at Laguna National Golf Resort Club on March 22.
57-year-old security guard Hu Ruitai told Shin Min Daily News that he was working at the vehicle pick-up point last Saturday when a man, seemingly in his 30s or 40s, driving a Mercedes-Benz insisted on parking in a non-designated area.
Mr Hu stopped the man and attempted a routine security check, but the driver sped off to pick up his wife and children.
"My job is to ask the purpose of entering and conduct a vehicle inspection. He refused and sped away. I had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit. I didn't understand what he wanted, so I chased after him."
Mr Hu said the man refused to communicate, repeatedly shouting "Don't talk to me!" before pushing him forcefully.
He immediately called for backup, and his colleagues quickly arrived. He also contacted the police, having sustained a minor injury to his right hand from the fall.
Mr Hu rested at home for several days afterwards, still experiencing arm pain. An X-ray revealed a muscle strain.
He explained he nearly hit his head on the kerb during the fall and worried about his three children if something serious had happened.
He also mentioned the driver accused him of touching his child, despite standing a distance away. The driver's wife later apologised to him.
The Union of Security Employees is aware of the incident and is providing support to Mr Hu. They urged the public to cooperate with security personnel and emphasised that security guards should not face abuse while performing their duties.
Shin Min Daily News contacted Laguna National Golf Resort Club and Porsche Singapore but had not received a response as of March 27.
Police confirmed a report was filed and investigations are ongoing.
