Mock battle lands him in real trouble

Some surprised residents living near an oil palm plantation in Segamat, Johor, alerted the police when they heard "gunshots" coming from the estate.

The police reached the scene and found that a "mock" battle was going on.

A group of men were engrossed in "battle" using fake replica M-16 and AK-47 airsoft guns.

The police raid, of course, was real.

All the "soldiers", 18 of them, were rounded up, The Star reported.

Out of those arrested, one is a 22-year-old Singaporean, China Press reported.

The report said he got to know the other men through Facebook and subsequently arranged to participate in the game.

Segamat Superintendent Mohd Kamil Sukarmi said the men were dressed in camouflage attire.

They were arrested for illegally possessing the fake guns during the Sunday afternoon raid at the plantation.

He told The Star: "We rushed to the plantation after being alerted by people who heard gunshots from the plantation.

"When we raided the place, the group were playing 'shooting' games with 14 fake guns."

It is against the law to possess fake replica guns.

Supt Mohd Kamil said the police also seized 20 plastic magazines and other accessories.

He said the fake bullets could cause serious injuries if shot at close range.

Four of the men were granted bail as they were only watching the game.

The others have been remanded.

It is not known whether the Singaporean is among those who have been granted bail.
