More than 3-in-1: Father and son arrested in Johor for selling ecstasy in powdered sachets

The duo mixed powdered ecstasy with fruit drink powder to produce 3-in-1 flavoured sachets.

A 49-year-old man and his son who sold ecstasy disguised as 3-in-1 instant beverage packets have been arrested by Malaysian police.

Approximately 6,389 grams of powdered ecstasy with an estimated street value of RM1.06 million (S$320,200) was seized during a raid on their rented home last Monday.

According to Muar District Police Chief Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz, authorities conducted the raid on Tuesday (June 24) between 4pm and 10pm.

Mr Raiz told Oriental Daily News that the man and his 23-year-old son were allegedly caught using a mortar and pestle to grind ecstasy powder during the operation.

"The suspects ground the ecstasy tablets into powder and repackaged them into individual sachets that resembled 3-in-1 instant beverage packets before selling them," he told reporters at a press conference yesterday.

The duo reportedly rented the house two years ago and began drug distribution in February, using traditional tools to process and package the drugs.

According to a report by China Press, the suspects mixed the powdered ecstasy with fruit drink powder to produce various flavoured sachets, including lemon, grape, and strawberry.

Each packet weighed between 45 and 55 grams and could dissolve instantly in water, providing enough for three to four users per sachet.

Police are currently investigating the source of the drugs.

Mr Raiz also confirmed that the father has five prior convictions, while the son has three previous drug-related offenses.

During the raid, police seized packaging materials, processing tools, a car, and a motorcycle.

Both suspects also tested positive for drug use and are being held for further investigation.
