Mother sacrifices life to save daughter, 10, from oncoming car
Talk about unconditional mother's love.
This US woman died because she wanted to save her daughter.
Colleen Segbers, 33, was walking with her 10-year-old daughter, Gwen when a car suddenly accelerated in their direction.
Segbers only had one thing on her mind: Get her kid out of harm's way.
St. Louis Fire Captain Gregg Favre said: "The mother was actually able to push the child out of the way of the vehicle as they were trying to avoid being hit."
Unfortunately, the Missouri resident could not save herself. She was hit by the car, then pinned between the vehicle and a Walgreens store.
Selfless
According to Favre, the daughter, Gwen, is "pretty upset given the circumstances".
The tragedy happened after the 58-year-old driver had accidentally stepped on the car accelerator instead of the brake.
Inspired by Segbers' selfless act, family friend Dasshia said: "She will be missed by many and (the) memories of her dancing, laughing, enjoying life, being a great example of a mother, friend, sister... her heroic ending will echo eternally."
Dasshia has also since set up a GoFundMe page to help Gwen and her family.
