Motorcycle passenger's helmet flies off while riding on expressway

The passenger glanced back repeatedly after the helmet fell and alerted the motorcyclist.

A motorcycle passenger's helmet came loose and fell off while the vehicle was travelling on an expressway.

A video uploaded to the Facebook group SG Road Vigilante shows a motorcyclist riding along an expressway with a passenger, when the passenger's helmet suddenly flies off and lands on the road.

The footage shows the male passenger repeatedly glancing backward after the helmet falls, before alerting the rider. The motorcyclist then slows down and eventually stops on the left road shoulder.

The incident, which was captured by a passing vehicle, reportedly occurred at 11:14pm on Oct 18.

Under the Road Traffic Act, both motorcyclists and pillion riders must wear helmets. First-time offenders may be fined up to $1,000, jailed for up to three months, or both. Repeat offenders face a fine of up to $2,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both.
