A 71-year old male motorcyclist died in an accident following a collision with a taxi on a north-bound section of the CTE early on April 29. The police said the 67-year-old male taxi driver was arrested for careless driving without reasonable consideration, causing death.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted at around 4.15am to the accident on the CTE, towards the SLE, near the Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 exit.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

Video footage was circulated online of the aftermath of the accident at around 6am, with a blue tent seen on the extreme left lane of the road and a taxi some 25m ahead of it in the same lane.

A motorcycle can be seen stuck under the yellow taxi's front bumper.

More motorcyclists and their pillion riders have been in involved in fatal accidents, with traffic police figures recording 85 such deaths in 2024 compared with 68 in 2023.

Motorcycles account for only 14.7 per cent of Singapore's total vehicle population, but figures showed motorcyclists and pillion riders accounted for more than half of all traffic accidents and deaths.
