M'sian cops: Hubby in love triangle set up hand grenade-booby trap

A woman escaped unscathed when a hand grenade blew up under her car last Saturday (Sept 13).

Now it turns out she could have survived a booby trap that the husband set up.

Police said a love triangle is believed to be at the centre of the incident, which took place in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.

Sungai Buloh police chief Supt Junaidi Bujang said they believed this was the case after questioning a former soldier, aged 50, following his arrest on Saturday night.

He said the suspect was unhappy that his wife was seeing someone else - the cousin of the person whose car was damaged in the incident.

"The suspect accused the cousin of running away with his wife,

and police believe it was him who was the target."

He added that police also seized two handphones and two cars, a Myvi and a Honda Civic, from the suspect to assist investigations.

The victim, Chong May Lun, 40, had a close shave as she drove her car over a hand grenade placed under a rock on her way to work from home.

The grenade, which had its safety pin removed, went off.

She was unhurt but the rear fender of her Toyota Vios came off and shrapnel penetrated the boot and rear passenger seats.
