M'sian teen arrested for abusing puppy, swinging it by its tail
Malaysian police have arrested a teenager who was seen in a video abusing a puppy.
The founder of Malaysian Independent Animal Rescue, Ms Puspa Rani, posted on the group's Facebook page that the 15-year-old was arrested on Tuesday morning and later released on bail.
A video was posted online on Sept 6 of the boy battering and abusing a puppy. The incident happened in Negeri Sembilan.
Incensed by boy's actions
The heartbreaking video, which went viral on social media, showed the boy swinging the canine around by the tail and throwing it high into the air.
The dog can initially be heard whimpering. It later died from its injuries.
(The video is too graphic to be shown.)
Netizens were incensed by the boy's actions and called for legal action to be taken against him.
The teen will be brought to court in 14 days.
'Teach him about life and love'
Jempol Superintendent Hamzah Alias said investigation was underway and that the case would be evaluated by the deputy public prosecutor.
"Our focus is to correct, and therefore we would perhaps have him under the supervision of a welfare officer," he said.
"He is underage and he will be sitting for his exams this year. Therefore, it would be good if certain quarters allow the law take its course, instead of taking things into their own hands," The Star online quoted him as saying.
Ms Puspa, who is actively on the case, said she will request the judge to sentence the boy to community service and hand him a RM200 (S$80) fine.
"Arresting him and fining him will not make him a better person or resolve the issue and we want to teach him about life and love," she wrote in her Facebook post on Wednesday.
