This article is more than 12 months old

A 30-year-old Malaysian woman was charged on Monday with murdering her five-year-old son.

The boy's body was found last month dumped at an oil palm estate in Bukit Tengah, Penang.

T. Gayathry and security guard R. Saravanan Kumar, 24, are accused of killing the boy at a roadside between 8am on Sept 20 and 11.25am on Sept 29.

Gayathry lodged a police report on Sept 23, claiming her son had gone missing.

She later confessed she had lashed the boy with a belt as he was naughty and had refused to study.

During interrogation, she claimed the boy died on Sept 20 at about 4.30pm.

Gayathry faces the grim prospect of being sent to the gallows for the boy’s death.
