No cars, just street tennis on Orchard Rd
Orchard Road will be a no-car zone on the first Saturday of every month for six months, starting Oct 4.
The 660m stretch from ION Orchard to Ngee Ann City - or between Scotts and Paterson roads and Bideford Road - will be closed to all vehicles between 6pm and 11pm.
The Orchard Road Business Association hopes that the Pedestrian Nights will draw more shoppers to the shopping belt and revitalise the area, which is facing stiff competition from new shopping haunts like Marina Bay and the suburban malls.
On Oct 4, there will be a mass tennis clinic, dubbed Tennis Pops Up@Orchard Road.
Revellers will be able to play street tennis and watch live exhibition matches and music performances.
The public can also contribute suggestions on activities and events to pedestriannight@orchardroad.org
