This man treated his girlfriends like punching bags.

Two years ago, suspecting his then-girlfriend of cheating on him, he slapped, punched and kicked her.

Hewhipped her with a belt, leaving her with multiple injuries - most notably a fractured rib.

Last year, he repeated his violent actions on another girlfriend.

She suffered two broken ribs.

Yesterday, delivery driver Mohamad Affindi Mohd Ali, 37, pleaded guilty to causing grievous hurt to the two women. He also admitted to insulting the modesty of a female colleague.

He was sentenced to 12 months' jail.

FIRST VICTIM

The court heard that Mohamad Affindi, who is a divorcee with three children, got to know the first woman in July 2011.

He then entered into a relationship with the 26-year-old, who cannot be named due to a gag order.

That November, he suspected her of having an affair with a male colleague and confronted her at his former flat in Jurong.

They argued and he assaulted her, injuring her nose, back and arms.

SECOND VICTIM

About a year later, Mohamad Affindi got together with Ms Esther Ong, 28.

But last September, the couple's quarrels escalated due to relationship problems and Mohamad Affindi's anger issues.

Once between Sept 7 and Sept 17, they met at Pasir Ris Park, only to get into a quarrel.

Again, Mohamad Affindi accused his girlfriend of cheating on him and he grabbed her arms. He pushed her to the ground, kicked her and left her sitting there.

He went back about half an hour later and they left the park after making up.

During that same period, Ms Ong was regularly punched and assaulted by him.

She went for a medical checkup at Singapore General Hospital on Sept 18, 2013, and was found to have two fractured ribs and bruises all over her body.

She made a police report that day, saying she had been assaulted by her boyfriend.

UPSKIRT VIDEOS

The court heard that during investigations, Mohamad Affindi's phone was seized and found to have two upskirt videos of a female colleague.

He admitted that he had used his iPhone to capture the footage between late 2009 and early 2010 at an office in Woodlands Civic Centre.

Yesterday, Mohamad Affindi pleaded guilty in court to two counts of voluntarily causing grievous hurt. Three charges of voluntarily causing hurt were taken into consideration.

He also admitted to one charge of insulting a woman's modesty, with a similar charge taken into consideration.

His lawyer, Mr Louis Joseph, said in mitigation that Mohamad Affindi was diagnosed by a psychiatrist to be suffering from severe depression.

He added that Mohamad Affindi and Ms Ong have reconciled and they intend to get married.

District Judge Shawn Ho said Mohamad Affindi's conduct was appalling and that his actions demonstrated a "total lack of respect for women".
