Iraqi insurgents: 'Hand over daughters for sex'

This article is more than 12 months old

A religious fundamentalist group in Iraq is ordering families to hand over their daughters for sex, reported The Daily Mirror.

They claim the women must join the Holy war and cleanse themselves by sleeping with the militants. Those that refuse are violating God’s will and will be beaten or killed, according to leaflets found in the captured cities of Mosul and Tikrit.

A fatwa from a Saudi-based cleric allowed the jihadists, from militant group ISIS, to rape women in Syria last year.

Baghdad University lecturer Nasser Kataw said: “This is against all the teachings of Islam. They think the rape of women in this way is some kind of sexual jihad. It is not. It is a war crime.”
