Malaysian woman raped during business trip to India
A Malaysia woman who was on a business trip to Jaipur, India was allegedly raped yesterday by a man she had met there.
The police confirmed that the suspect, 30, is a resident of Bhilwara and that he has since been arrested according to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Jaipur East).
The woman said she went to Jaipur earlier this week for a business trip and met the man.
The pair then had food in a five-star hotel on Thursday night. He then drove her to an isolated place where he allegedly raped her in the car.
It was also reported that he had earlier offered her a drink laced with drugs.
The man then left her in front of the hotel where she was staying.
The woman caught a police car in the city and lodged a complaint. The man was arrested within three hours.
"We have registered a case and are interrogating him." said Deputy Commissioner Amandeep Singh.
Rape has been a topic of high prominence in India since the 2012 gang rape of an Indian student in Delhi.
Just last week, two teenage girls were gang raped and left hanging from a tree.
It is believed that a rape takes place every 22 minutes in India.
