SMRT should improve security standards
ELDERLY MAN FOUND ON MRT TRACKS
FROM READER ACE KINDRED CHEONG
I am disappointed and angry after reading about the injured elderly man who got onto the MRT tracks near the Expo station in the report, "How did he get on the track?" (The New Paper, Feb 3).
I'm concerned about the lax security. Imagine a man in his 70s being able to clear barriers to get on the tracks, only to be spotted much later.
With such security standards, it is only a matter of time before a terrorist attack takes place with much greater consequences.
I would like to suggest that SMRT improve its security and service standards. And I urge the Ministry of Transport to impose a hefty fine against such lapses in security.
