Passers-by put out fire at Chinatown steamed bun store before SCDF arrives
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A fire that broke out in a steamed bun store in Chinatown was extinguished by members of the public even before the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident took place at 11.30am on Sep 2 at Wenjiabao, a shop located on the first floor of People's Park Complex.
No serious damage to shop
Three fire trucks were seen parked outside the mall, and video footage showed smoke filling the area.
Although the store did not appear to have suffered serious damage, its interior was covered in soot.
Staff at the stall confirmed that no one was injured, but declined to give further details of the incident.
Other shops nearby continued operating as usual and were not affected by the fire.
Public helped put out fire
In response to queries from The New Paper, an SCDF spokesperson confirmed that they were alerted to a fire at 1 Park Road at 11.30am on Sep 2.
The blaze involved the kitchen exhaust ducting of an oven in the kitchen of a first floor shop, but members of the public managed to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher.
One person was assessed for minor injuries but declined to be sent to the hospital.
