Penang boy, 10, in critical condition after choking on 'eyeball gummy'
Ten-year-old Mohamad Fahmi Hafiz Mohamad is fighting for his life after choking on an "eyeball gummy" he bought outside school on Feb 18.
Ms Siti Farhani Mohamad Fikri, 33, shared on Facebook that her nephew remained unconscious and in a critical condition at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of Penang Hospital.
"He is currently entirely dependent on oxygen," Ms Farhani told Malaysia's New Straits Times.
"I appeal to everyone to pray for a miracle for my nephew so that he can recover."
In another Facebook update on Feb 19, she wrote that there had been no progress with Fahmi and that she could only pray for a miracle for her nephew to regain consciousness.
Ms Farhani said Fahmi choked on a gummy shaped like an eyeball, which he had bought outside the school compound.
Ms Farhani told Guang Ming Daily that when Fahmi collapsed in class at about 2.30pm, his teacher administered CPR on Fahmi but he did not respond.
The teacher immediately called for an ambulance and was guided by a medical worker via a video call to check Fahmi's air passage, during which the teacher found the gummy lodged in the boy's throat.
