PIE collision between two motorcycles claims life of groom-to-be, 36

The other rider, 32, is assisting with police investigations.

A collision between two motorcycles on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Sept 9 has resulted in the death of a 36-year-old groom-to-be.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the fatal accident occurred at about 6.25am along PIE towards Tuas, on the slip road leading to the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE).

The deceased was identified as James, from Penang in Malaysia.

Video footage circulating online showed police vehicles and an ambulance at the scene. A motorcycle was seen on the road shoulder with shattered parts scattered across the road, while a nearby blue tent had been set up.

Deceased was a groom-to-be

A friend of the deceased, who only wished to be known as Anor, told Shin Min that James had been working in Singapore as a mechanical and electrical coordinator at a construction and interior design company.

He added that he had a Thai girlfriend and was planning to get married, noting that James had just returned from Thailand in August.

Police confirmed that two motorcycles had collided on the PIE. A male rider, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The other male rider, 32, was conscious when transported to the hospital, and is assisting with investigations.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Company handling funeral arrangements

James' company is handling funeral arrangements, and his remains will be sent back to Malaysia after cremation.

Anor said James was a cross-border commuter who rented an apartment in Iskander Puteri, Johor, and travelled daily to Singapore for work.

The accident reportedly took place while he was on his way to work.

"We knew each other for two years, having worked together on a project. His company is based in the Tuas area," Anor said.

He added that the company organised a local wake for James on Sept 10, giving colleagues and friends the opportunity to pay their respects.

The cremation took place the following day, after which his remains were brought back to Malaysia by his family members.
