Plane forced to turn back due to 'smelly poo' in toilet

A plane flying from London to Dubai on Thursday (March 12) night was forced to turn back less than an hour into the flight due to a foul odour from the toilet, the Daily Mail reported.

Passenger Abhishek Sachdev tweeted that the disruption was due to "smelly poo in the toilet" and that he had to wait 15 hours for the next flight.

Hotel accommodation and food vouchers were provided to affected passengers.

The flight had departed without any problems, said Mr Sachdev. But half an hour into the journey, the captain made an unusual announcement.

"The pilot made an announcement requesting senior cabin crew, and we knew something was a bit odd.

"About 10 minutes later, he (the captain) said you may have noticed there’s a quite pungent smell coming from one of the toilets.

"He said it was liquid faecal excrement, those are the words he used. He said it’s not a technical fault with the plane, and he was very adamant about that,” Mr Sachdev was quoted by MailOnline Travel as saying.

The British Airways plane turned back near Brussels, Belgium after the cabin crew was unable to fix the problem and the smell became unbearable for passengers seated near the toilet.

An initial three-hour wait for the next flight turned into an overnight delay

Said Mr Sachdev: "It’s obviously disappointing to lose a whole day of your trip. You might expect it on some random airline, but you wouldn’t expect it from British Airways."

An airline spokesman said: "We're very sorry for the discomfort to our customers. We provided them with hotel accommodation and rescheduled the flight to depart the next day."
