'Police can't do anything': Man allegedly blasts music before dawn at Jurong East coffee shop
A man in his 60s has drawn the ire of residents in Jurong East for allegedly blasting music from a coffee shop in the early hours of the morning - sometimes as early as 4am.
According to STOMP, the repeated disturbances took place near Block 253 Jurong East Street 24, and have prompted multiple police reports from frustrated residents.
One of them, Ms Chen, a 35-year-old who works at a catering business, said the noise has affected her parents and sister who live in a nearby flat.
She stays over occasionally, but said the past year has been "extremely frustrating" due to the man's behaviour.
"Almost every day, he blasts loud music from his radio and speakers at around 5am. Some residents tried talking to him, even arguing with him, but it only made things worse - he started earlier, sometimes around 4am," she said.
The situation escalated on May 25, when Ms Chen said she called the police after the man resumed his routine in the pre-dawn hours.
"When the police came, the man denied the radio was his. But we've seen him with both a radio and a speaker," she said.
"After the police left, he turned the music back on and even bragged to nearby stallholders that the police couldn't do anything to him."
A vendor later called the police. This time, the man allegedly turned the music off when he saw the police car approaching.
According to Ms Chen, the disturbance resumed again on May 28, and she filed yet another report.
"I've lost count of how many times we've called the police. They told us they could only advise him but not take further action. We really hope his family can step in," she said, adding that the daily disruptions have left her family tired from lack of rest.
The police confirmed that they have received reports related to the case.
