Poll: Do you agree with the shisha ban?

This article is more than 12 months old

Starting later this month, there will be a ban on the import, distribution and sale of shisha in Singapore.

The new regulation is meant to clamp down on shisha smoking in view of its adverse health effects.

The ban was announced in parliament on Tuesday by Parliamentary Secretary for Health Faishal Ibrahim.

Existing licensed importers and retailers will be allowed to carry on with their shisha business till July 31, 2016.

This will give them time to transition away from their current business and deplete their stock, said Dr Faishal.

He added that shisha smoking is no less harmful than other forms of tobacco use.

According to the World Health Organisation, shisha smoking is "just another of the many disguised forms of tobacco consumption and not a safe alternative to cigarettes".

Take the poll below and tell us if you agree with the ban.
