This article is more than 12 months old

A mother-to-be spotted an ad for baby clothing on Craigslist and drove to the seller's Colorado address.

Instead of getting a good deal, the seven-month pregnant woman was stabbed and her foetus was removed from her womb by the woman who had placed the ad, reported The Washington Post.

The incident happened in the city of Longmont on Wednesday (March 18) afternoon, reported Fox8.

The 34-year-old attacker left the 26-year-old victim on the ground and took the foetus to hospital.

There, the attacker claimed she had suffered a miscarriage, reported The Denver Post.

The foetus died.

Arrested

Police said they received a call about the stabbing at 2.45pm.

"Officers entered the home and located a female who had been beaten and stabbed in the stomach," said police.

She was taken to hospital where she underwent surgery and is expected to survive.

The attacker was arrested at the same hospital at 7.45pm on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and child abuse knowingly and recklessly resulting in death, local media reported.

According to The Denver Post, the attacker's husband had driven his wife and the foetus to the hospital. The couple have two children.
