Private-hire driver arrested for alleged road rage at Changi Airport
A private-hire driver was arrested for allegedly causing public nuisance and threatening a Changi Airport shuttle service driver on the afternoon of Jan 31.
Police investigations revealed that the 30-year-old private-hire driver had tailgated the shuttle bus and blocked it with his car at Changi Airport Terminal 1's departure bus bay.
The man was upset after the shuttle bus switched lanes along Airport Boulevard, the police said in a statement on March 12.
After exiting his car, he allegedly made gestures and shouted vulgarities at the shuttle bus driver.
When the bus driver attempted to drive off, the man reportedly kicked the front passenger door of the bus and threw his mobile phone at it.
The police, who were alerted to the dispute at about 2.10pm, arrested the man at the scene. He is expected to be charged in court on March 14.
If found guilty of causing public nuisance, he may be jailed for up to three months, fined up to $2,000, or both.
For using threatening behaviour against a public service worker, he may be jailed for up to a year, fined up to $5,000, or both.
The police said they take a serious view on any form of harassment or threatening behaviour towards public service workers, including those providing transport services to the public.
"Such acts not only disrupt essential services but also cause unnecessary inconvenience to the members of the public," they said.
