Private-hire driver collapses at Marina Bay Financial Centre, dies in hospital

A middle-aged private-hire driver collapsed from a heart attack while at the Marina Bay Financial Centre (MBFC) and later died in hospital.

The incident happened at about 10am on March 10 at the passenger pick-up point of MBFC Tower 3.

Photos shared in the Facebook group Singapore Roads Accident show a white car at the pick-up area, with a man in black shorts lying on the ground. Several bystanders are seen trying to render help.

A staff member, who declined to be named, told Shin Min Daily News on March 11 that the man was a private-hire driver.

He had driven his car, which was not ferrying any passengers, to the pick-up point. It is unclear whether he was there to pick up a passenger or if he had pulled over after feeling unwell.

"Members of the public and building security rushed to help. Someone performed CPR while others called an ambulance," the staff member said.

Paramedics arrived and took the man to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. It is understood that he had suffered a heart attack.
