Rare Bishan maisonette sets new record with $1.588 million resale price
The unit features an open terrace, a rare find in the property market.
A rare executive maisonette in Bishan has changed hands for $1.588 million - setting a new record not just for the estate, but also for such flat types across Singapore.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the unit at Block 194 Bishan Street 13 surpassed the previous Bishan record of $1.568 million, as well as the all-time high for executive maisonettes islandwide, which previously stood at $1.51 million.
While the transaction has yet to be reflected on the Housing Board's website, Shin Min reported that the sale has been confirmed by both the property agent and buyer.
Spacious layout and rooftop terrace a major draw
The flat, marketed by Louis Tey from Huttons Group, boasts a generous 1,755 sq ft of space - significantly larger than the typical 1,500 sq ft size of similar units.
A standout feature is its open rooftop terrace, which Mr Tey described as a rare find in public housing and a major selling point.
Over 50 enquiries and 22 viewings were recorded during a two-hour open house. Four groups submitted offers, and the unit was eventually sold to a buyer in his 30s.
Buyer: "We plan to stay for at least 10 years"
The buyer, 33-year-old financial consultant Tan Jun Er (transliterated), said the flat will be the first home for him and his wife, after a three-year wait for a Build-To-Order (BTO) unit yielded no results.
They currently live with their parents and have been searching for a place of their own.
The couple had originally been eyeing resale flats in Bidadari, closer to their parents' homes in Woodleigh. But newer flats in the area were smaller and didn't meet their needs.
After viewing the Bishan mansionette, they fell in love with the space and decided to make an offer.
Mr Tan told Shin Min that one of the main reasons he was drawn to the flat was the rooftop terrace, where he could relax and enjoy the sunset.
He and his wife also planned to stay long term and wanted a spacious home where their dog could move around freely.
The unit's prime location - close to MRT stations, schools, bus interchanges and shopping malls - was another major plus.
"We plan to stay here for at least 10 years," said Mr Tan. "If we like living here, we might never move."
