Raya tragedy: Family killed, 10-month-old girl orphaned in car crash

This article is more than 12 months old

A 10-month baby was orphaned when three members of a Malaysian  family were killed in a head on collision while on the way from Kedah to Terengganu for Hari Raya celebrations.

The car that baby Nur Umairah Uzma was in crashed into an oncoming express bus on the Malaysian East-West, near Grik, reported The Star,

Her parents and three-year-old sister were killed in the crash which left the Proton Pesona car pinned under the bus in the 2.40am incident.

Grik OCPD Supt Abdul Manab Baharum told The Star that the driver, Farizul Ahmad, 29, and his other daughter, Nur Fatiha Uzma, who was in a car seat in the front passenger seat, died on the spot.

Farizul's wife, Suraida Che Hashim, also 29, died shortly after incident, he said.

Nur Umairah Uzma is being treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, Perak, where she remains unconscious.

"The family were on their way from Kedah to Terengganu to celebrate Hari Raya at the time.

"It is believed that Farizul was attempting to overtake a vehicle in front of him but failed and crashed his car into the bus instead," said Supt Abdul Manab.
