Resident leaves belongings in corridor, claims it's to clear flat for potential buyers to view
An HDB resident put her flat up for sale and placed her belongings in the corridor, apparently to free up space for viewing, but ended up inconveniencing her neighbours
According to Shin Min Daily News, the resident living on the seventh storey of Block 33 Eunos Crescent lined the corridor with belongings including boxes, clothes and even a wheelchair.
Facing the row of belongings was a row of clothes hung to dry on the parapet.
Even the stairwell at the end of the corridor had a pile of items covered with plastic sheets.
Resident Chris, 72, said the accumulation of items started more than a year ago and the amount of items kept increasing over time.
"It crowds the corridor passage and it's a fire hazard," he added.
Another resident, 79-year-old Ding, said she had to be careful not to trip each time she passed the unit.
Ms Aida, 49, said the accumulation of items outside her flat was beyond her control.
She shared that her family had planned to sell the flat and move out after her mother died last year.
They piled their things in the corridor so they could free up space in the unit for potential buyers to view the flat.
Ms Aida revealed that she suffers from diabetes and asthma, making it difficult for her to tidy up and is aware of the inconvenience caused to her neighbours.
"I hope to move out before August, I hope everyone can understand that my belongings need to be placed outside," she said.
As at Feb 18, the items at the stairwell had been cleared but a large amount of belongings remained in the corridor.
Marine Parade Town Council shared that it had contacted the residents involved and reminded them to reduce the clutter.
"Obstruction of public areas poses a serious risk to residents, especially during emergencies. The Town Council will monitor the situation closely and continue to educate residents on the risks."
The Town Council will also be on site to assist in clearing accumulated items from public areas.
