The video begins normally. A group of friends are walking three dogs. But just a few seconds in, the man is seen swinging a leashed chihuahua around in the air.

He does this at least four more times in the span of the 80-second video.

The shocking video was first posted on Facebook, which subsequently led to the arrest of Alfie Loft, 19, in Hertfordshire, UK.

The Hatfield Magistrates' Court heard on Aug 4  that the dog wasn't his.

The chihuahua's owner had asked Loft to take the dog for a walk after they had a few drinks at a pub.

Loft expressed his remorse as he said: "I want everyone to know that I'm really sorry and it will never happen again. I was under the influence of alcohol and I don't really remember any of it.

"I feel sickened at myself. I am absolutely disgusted."

Loft was spared jail time but was ordered to pay £250 (S$525) compensation to the owner of the dog, £85 costs and £60 victim surcharge.

He was also banned from keeping animals for two years.
