Singapore influencer pleads guilty to stealing over $600 worth of beauty products from Don Don Donki
Genie Yamaguchi and a friend stole 27 beauty products.
A 30-year-old Singapore influencer pleaded guilty on Aug 26 to stealing $628.90 worth of beauty products from a Don Don Donki outlet at Orchard Central with a friend, Shin Min Daily News reported.
Before her arrest, Genie Yamaguchi had about 14,800 followers on Instagram, though the account appears to have been deactivated.
She also runs a preserved flower business and a beauty aesthetics clinic.
Stole 27 beauty products
Yamaguchi and her friend, Lee Suet Keay, Cheryl, 28, stole from the Don Don Donki outlet at Orchard Central between 2.30 and 3am on Aug 25 2024.
According to court documents, the pair stole 27 beauty products.
After placing the items in their cart, they left the store without paying. They were later spotted by a staff member on duty.
The staff member alerted the manager, who reviewed CCTV footage and confirmed the theft before reporting it.
Yamaguchi and Lee were arrested the following month, but only returned nine items. They were later asked to compensate the store for the remaining goods.
The prosecution noted that Yamaguchi had no prior criminal record and requested an assessment to determine her suitability for a Day Reporting Order (DRO). This is an alternative sentence to a fine or jail term, where offenders report to a day reporting centre on a regular basis.
Yamaguchi's lawyer agreed, stating that she had already compensated Don Don Donki for the outstanding items.
The case has been adjourned to Sept 23 for sentencing.
Friend involved in 3 other theft cases
Lee is also facing three additional charges of theft.
Court documents indicate that she stole a pair of $90 shoes from Watsons in Suntec City on Aug 23, and a travel mug worth $45 from Jurong Point on Aug 27.
She is also accused of stealing over $3,000 worth of goods from Mustafa Shopping Centre on Apr 28 this year.
Lee's case will be heard on Sept 1.
