$120k theft at Syed Alwi Rd: 4 held in M'sia
Three men and a woman suspected of stealing the equivalent of more than $120,000 in foreign currencies from a money changer near Syed Alwi Road were arrested in Malaysia on Friday.
The four, who are between 30 and 59 years old, allegedly committed the theft on Aug 12, the police said yesterday. The money was in a bag on the counter.
Having established the identities of the suspects, the police worked with their counterparts in Malaysia to apprehend the four.
They were extradited to Singapore the day after their arrest.
Cash amounting to more than $15,000 in different currencies were found on them.
They will be charged in court today with theft in dwelling with common intention, said the police. If convicted, they can be jailed up to seven years, and fined.
