This year's The New Paper Courts Big Walk will take participants through S'pore Zoo and Night Safari

Get ready to walk with us on Nov 26 at a new place and in a new time slot.

This year, The New Paper Courts Big Walk is going to the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari.

Look out for the newest exhibit - the Goodfellow's tree kangaroos, Makaia and Nupela.

The 5km route, which kicks off at 2pm, will take you through to the Night Safari, where you can catch a view of its first baby elephant - the offspring of Chawang and Sri Nandong - in six years.

Mr Dominic Nathan, editor of The New Paper, says: "Every year we try and find an interesting route for families to enjoy, and this year we will raise the fun quotient up a few notches with our walk through the Singapore Zoo.

"Pack your picnic bags and bring the whole gang along. Join TNP and our partners Courts and Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) for the family event of the year."

Last year's SG50 Jubilee Big Walk saw a total of 25,000 Singaporeans from all walks of life celebrating the nation's 50th birthday.

The trail took participants through Singapore's key landmarks in the Civic District and Marina Bay area.

The non-competitive fun walk also holds the Guinness Book of World Records as the event with the largest number of walkers - 77,500 took part in 2000.

Mr Stan Kim, country chief executive officer of Courts Singapore, says: "This November, Courts Singapore is proud to partner The New Paper to bring the Big Walk to over 10,000 Singaporeans.

"10 is a special number for us, as this year's Big Walk coincides with the 10th year anniversary celebrations of our Megastore, commemorating a decade of bringing mega-sized deals to shoppers since we first pioneered big-box retail in our Tampines Retail Park in 2006."

Teacher Irene Wong, 38, is looking forward to the event. She has participated in previous Big Walks at the Marina Barrage and Universal Studios Singapore.

She says: "It sounds like we can expect lots of fun again this time.

"I am sure my boys (aged five and seven) will enjoy themselves too as they love animals very much."

Chief marketing officer of WRS Isabel Cheng says: "Away from the bustling city, the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari offer a pristine backdrop for a leisurely stroll amid lush greenery, coupled with sights and sounds of the wild.

"We are happy to host the TNP Big Walk this year and offer participants a wild day out. At the same time, they will be able to learn more about conservation and the natural world we live in while celebrating healthy living."

The registration fee is $42, but early birds pay only $35.

This year, there is a bonus offer for all participants. You can purchase discount tickets to the River Safari at $8 each, with a limit of four tickets for each participant.

Other than goodie bags filled with exciting treats and discount vouchers, there is also an exclusively-designed T-shirt for all.
