Join a garden party, relive the good ol' kampung days

This article is more than 12 months old

Miss the good old kampung days?

Now, you can relive the community spirit of yore with a garden party, as part of SG50 celebrations.

The South West Community Development Council (CDC), National Parks Board (NParks) and Sumitomo Chemicals Asia  are supporting these SG50 Garden Parties, which run from this month to September.

The garden parties will reach out to 5,000 Pioneer Generation (PGs) and vulnerable residents to make them feel part of the community.

The seniors and residents will get hand-painted and decorated mini flowering pots. They can also harvest produce in the gardens.

Citing Singapore's Garden City reputation and the Botanic Gardens' Unesco World Heritage status, mayor of South West District, Ms Low Yen Ling said:

"We are fortunate to inherit a wonderful green legacy from foresight of Lee Kuan Yew and our pioneers. Let’s continue nurturing the love for nature and our environment so that our green culture will flourish and blossom even more in the next 50 years.”
