Kevryn Lim: I will champion single mums' rights
National Solidarity Party (NSP) candidate Kevryn Lim, 26, said yesterday she will be championing the rights of single mothers.
She also revealed that she is raising a 2½-year-old son on her own.
She told The New Paper last night that she is separated from her Australia-born Singaporean husband.
They met when they were studying at Curtin University in Perth.
He was a mechanical engineering student while she was pursing her Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communication) and later Masters in Professional Communication there.
Ms Lim was fielded as a National Solidarity Party (NSP) candidate for Sembawang GRC yesterday.
She had been keeping a low profile after she was first revealed as a potential new candidate, following horse-trading talks between the various opposition parties.
FRESH FACE
Initially, people were wowed by her fresh face. But she quickly experienced a baptism of fire when some questioned her credibility as a politician.
These questions popped up after pictures of the former model in lingerie surfaced online.
The project director at an events management and digital marketing firm was initially still hesitant and shy with the media, opting not to speak at the nomination centre at Yishun Primary School.
But later in the day, she spoke up about supporting single mothers' rights.
"When we were in Australia, we had a lot of help from the Australian government.
"(But) When we came back here, we didn't get as much help. This is why I wanted to enter politics since I have had first-hand experience.
During this hectic period of campaigning, she said her parents help to look after her child.
She said: "He goes to the childcare. He's the only child at home, so it is best that he interacts with other children."
