New MP Louis Ng: 'I won’t be an MP for at least once a month'

Mr Louis Ng a new Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC.

But in the coming months, he will also be a taxi driver, policeman and coffee shop assistant, albeit each for just a day.

The animal rights activist will be putting aside his MP duties at least once a month to try a different occupation.

He wrote on Facebook: "To really understand and really see what's happening on the ground and to be able to make a difference, I want to gain some first-hand experience.​"

Mr Ng added: "I'm really looking forward to doing this, gaining more experience and also use these experiences to help draft my questions in Parliament and help improve policies in Singapore."

Online reactions to his post have largely been positive, with many expressing support for his idea.

Facebook user Peter Teo wrote: "Great. The first time an MP is doing this. Proud to be a resident of Nee Soon GRC."

Another user, Christopher Andrew Sin, wrote: "Good idea. Support. All thumbs and hands up."
