The People's Action Party (PAP) team in Ang Mo Kio GRC "will give it our all" if faced with a contest this coming election, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said yesterday.

Mr Lee, who is leading a six-member team in the group representation constituency (GRC), told The Straits Times during a market visit yesterday: "We take all competition seriously. If there is a contest, we will give it our all."

PAP's Ang Mo Kio team led by Mr Lee received 69.3 per cent of valid votes against a Reform Party (RP) team in the 2011 General Election, making it the PAP's best performing GRC.

Asked whether he expects to achieve the same result this time, PM Lee said: "We try our best."

RP is likely to contest there again after introducing its candidates on Friday. They comprise activist lawyer M. Ravi, blogger Roy Ngerng, entrepreneur Osman Sulaiman, activist Gilbert Goh, infocomm trainer Siva Chandran and former banker Jesse Loo.

PM Lee met residents at three different markets, including Punggol South market, which is now part of the GRC after the latest review of electoral boundaries.

He was accompanied by his fellow candidates, including new faces Darryl David and Koh Poh Koon, and incumbents Gan Thiam Poh, Ang Hin Kee and Intan Azura Mokhtar.

At the last stop at Ang Mo Kio Central, the PM launched the town council's new masterplan - "Ang Mo Kio-Sengkang West 2.0".

Over the next few years, residents can look forward to new facilities and amenities, including an upgraded polyclinic and lifts that stop on all floors for more blocks. There will also be two new MRT stations in the GRC on the Thomson-East Coast line, set to open in phases from 2019.
